Structure of the Care Living Labs

The selected platforms, spread across Flanders and perfectly complementary, will take on the challenge, supported by three supervisory Care Living Labs bodies:

  • Program Office as coordinating body
  • The Scientific Consortium - KIO - responsible for scientific support
  • The Sounding Board Committee led by the Care Innovation Platform of 'Flanders' Care'.

The Program Office, supervised by iMinds, is appointed as the coordinating body. The Program Office supports and facilitates bringing all involved players together. These players are: the platforms, KIO, the Sounding Board Committee, the authorities, the IWT and interested parties in Belgium and abroad. iMinds is an established name in international living lab research and will make its expertise available to the platforms. In this way, the concept of 'living labs' can be developed further and used as an instrument of innovation in care.

The Scientific Consortium KIO (Knowledge Innovation Center for Elderly Care) comprises collaboration between the University of Brussels, Catholic University Leuven, Artevelde University College and University College West Flanders. The Consortium will gather scientific knowledge and insights about the platforms and projects and will support them substantially. Furthermore, it will disseminate the scientific knowledge obtained and formulate policy recommendations. The consortium is an interdisciplinary organization and has broad expertise regarding care processes, research methodology, population ageing and the care economy.

The Sounding Board Committee consists of representatives from Flanders' Care and various actors
from the field, and from there can implement the exchange of information, knowledge and ideas. The Sounding Board Committee will also introduce new problem areas and ideas in order to possibly test them later in the Care Living Labs.
